My criteria is that I just want it to be clean & safe. And this place offers exactly that!I booked a dorm with 4beds-all women. The place was quietbut I brought my own earphones, eyecover and slept like a baby. I tried their breakfast for £6 you get tons! Coffee, toast, cheese, ham, cereals, jams, croissants – I mean! Delicious! The building is beautiful and the staff is very friendly. I will be staying here again definetly!.Ps: under the beds in the dorms they have lockers so u can keep your valuables safe for free. Free wifi, parking – ladies there are haidryers in the toiletts. Spent and hour and a half drying my laundry and the clothes were still soaked; didn’t work… read moreOne of the nicest hostels I’ve been in but service not very good. Spent and hour and a half drying my laundry and the clothes were still soaked; didn’t work for me or anyone else using the machines. Also two machines were broken. I told them and explained how long it’s taken and how much money I’ve spent (the machines are not cheap either) and they really did not care one bit. I asked for the nearest laundromat and he said he has no idea so I just found one on Google. The laundromat ended up being much cheaper and faster. read less

Back again after 11 years When we stayed at Palmers Lodge in 2008 as a couple in our first holiday after having a proper job, we were still looking for an affordable place to stay,… read moreWhen we stayed at Palmers Lodge in 2008 as a couple in our first holiday after having a proper job, we were still looking for an affordable place to stay, and because of that we chose Palmers Lodge. We liked the atmosphere – simple, clean but yet full of Victorian glamour of a proper manor. 11 years later, we upgraded to a double ensuite room and hoped to find the atmosphere of 2008 again – and we did! The hostel achieves to keep up its Victorian touch although it has become more modern and efficient inside. Cleanliness, friendliness, breakfast, location (for a short couple escape without the kids – shops, restaurants, 2 tube stations, bus stop from Stansted close by), facility and atmosphere – 10 out of 10. We love the spirit of the house and will certainly be back. Don’t expect luxury, but expect the touch of class that goes with ancient luxury. Wonderful. More read less

Very friendly and responsive staff.
Sell sufficient facility with bar, laundry and well stocked up vending machines.
Cleaners working really hard to keep places maintained regularly.

Sell sufficient facility with bar, laundry and well stocked up vending machines.
Cleaners working really hard to keep places maintained regularly.
Extremely polite polish chap during night shift which is rare and day staff helpful at all times. Free breakfast is a very nice feature also.
If towels were free would be amazing.
BBQ or some kind of event be nice every now and then. read less

This was my first time staying in a hostel/shared space, so naturally, I didn’t know what to expect and was anxious, however My stay was perfect. The rooms were clean and I also enjoyed the breakfast. I made it to one of the social events (karaoke) which was a fun way to meet other travelers. Also, the location is my favorite thing about the hostel (other than the staff); the location is perfect, away from the tourist but close enough, thanks the the tube. I can’t wait to return. read less
