Summer Food Festivals
If the unbeatable August weather wasn’t convincing enough, it’s now even more tempting for food lovers to take a holiday to London. The capital city has long since shed the poor reputation of bland and boiled English food, and has come to rival New York in its selection of restaurants and cuisines. For many travellers, however, Michelin starred dining isn’t in the budget. This doesn’t mean foodies need to go hungry, though. Some of London’s best food can be found at the markets and festivals, and best of all it won’t put a hole in your wallet.
All year long, the markets of the city are a go-to for travellers and locals alike for a good meal and great atmosphere. After a very fruitful season, the food is fresher than ever, and the already impressive Borough, Brixton, Portobello, and Covent Garden markets are bursting with fresh produce.
August is best for cooking flavourful, Mediterranean style dishes with shiny aubergines, bell peppers, courgettes, and juicy tomatoes. Peaches, nectarines and blackberries make for perfect pies, and lazy days are perfect for picnics in some of London’s best parks.
Coming this month, additionally, are two food festivals that are musts for any traveller who appreciates a day full of good food and fun.
Feast at Battersea Park
The never disappointing foodie festival is back in the city to put on a brand new edible celebration, the Feast at Battersea Park from the 16-18 of August.
The Feast will be a picnic extravaganza, featuring the UK’s best and biggest variety of restaurant, street, and artisan food available in one place. There will also be live music and a selection of other activities.
Whether seeking a traditional hog roast, exotic meat, or refreshing liquid-nitrogen ice cream, this festival has the perfect meal to compliment your day outside enjoying live music with friends.
Grouse will be launching its new ginger beer at Feast, one of the many refreshing beverages featured.
Both VIP and standard admission tickets can be purchased here.
Real Food Street Food Festival
In the heart of central London at Southbank Centre, the Real Food Street Food Festival will close out this eventful month from the 23-26 of August.
The vendors of the festival “reflect and celebrate the very best of London’s multicultural street food scene,” and entry to explore and enjoy is free.
While satisfying your taste buds, treat your ears to the most talented local singer/songwriters at the festival’s riverside stage.
With the sights, sounds, and snacks, this festival offers a great all-in-one day to really experience London.
